Bachmann's truly excellent class 108 two coach Derby Lightweight DMU

Sometimes its worth telling the story as to why I added a loco or unit to my collection.

January 2007 I found myself at Brighton station with a unusual but welcome break between trains of over an hour!
The previous evening I had seen that the next issue of Model Rail was going to be their 100th so I had resolved to buy it.
This was the ideal opportunity with WH Smiths on the station I popped in and got my copy then purchased a cup of coffee and secreted myself in a quiet corner of the station to have a look through.

My eyes landed on the review on page 74 of Bachmann's new class 108 DMU.
It looked superb and with coach lighting as well. The text said that DCC would make the best of this feature.

Well that afternoon at home I weakened further and an order was placed with a well known model railway store. My class 108 arrived today Saturday 13th Jan 2007.

Initial report WOW

Bachmann have done a great job with this little unit.
Detail, finish and character have been captured perfectly. So here I present a fair number of photos of this unit. And as you will see even on normal DC control the lights look great.

The profile looks spot on

Once you uncouple the very neat coupling there is more detail between the coaches

First class and no smoking!

Working tail lights and destination

Working marker lights

Liverpool one end Warrington the other

Just look at the cab detail

Pipes and fittings have been reproduced

Looking at the other side now

Now a look at those coach lights! subtle just like they should be with a tungston glow

So that ends my photographic review of the class 108! Bachmann, SR EMUs now please
